Sports Vision

Keep your eye on the ball! Focus on the finish line! Don’t lose sight of the green! If there’s one thing that seems to be a key to success in sports, it’s vision. But did you know you can improve your performance by improving some aspects of your vision? It’s easy to recognize problems, and even easier to solve them. The following are some aspects of vision which can be the difference between victory and defeat.

Dynamic visual acuity is your ability to see objects when they are moving fast. This is important in sports like hockey, racquetball, and tennis.

Visual concentration is your ability to ignore distractions happening around you which include spectators and other participants on the playing environment.

Eye tracking is following an object with your eyes without head motion. It is important with any sport that involves a fast-moving ball, balance and reaction time.

Eye-hand-body coordination is how your muscles and limbs react to the information gathered by your eyes. It affects timing and body control.

Visual memory is the ability to process and remember a fast moving, complex picture of people and things. It is very important where sporting games quickly moves up the field. Visual memory helps you know where your teammates and opponents are positioned.

Visual reaction time is what allows a batter to hit the ball, or a tennis player to return a serve, as it is the speed with which your brain interprets and reacts.

Focus flexibility allows a quarterback to quickly focus on his receivers even though they are at varying distances.

Depth perception lets you judge distance. This is especially important in basketball, golf, and other sports involving distance to the goal. By improving aspects of your vision, you can improve your performance in sporting activities, no matter what sport you’re involved in.

Computer Vision Syndrome

Computer vision syndrome (CVS) affects three out of four computer users. It is a series of symptoms related to extended periods of computer usage. Though it is no cause for panic, measures can be taken to relieve symptoms. CVS can appear as a variety of symptoms. Headaches, eye strain, neck and back aches, sensitivity to light, blurred vision, double vision, and dry or irritated eyes are all possible problems related to CVS.

Your vision, display terminal, and the environment where you use your computer are all factors which can lead to CVS.

It is important to discuss your use of computers with our doctors. An evaluation will help to pinpoint problems and provide effective recommendations to ensure proper visual hygiene in your work environment.

Contact Lenses

Contact lenses, when used properly, are very convenient and, with the latest advancements in technology, are extremely comfortable. Most of the time, you’ll hardly know you’re wearing them, though you’ll certainly notice how clear and accurate your vision is. Contact lenses are small lenses worn on the surface of the eye, called the cornea, to correct vision. As well, lenses are sometimes worn for cosmetic purposes to change eye color. A professional fitting will ensure ocular health as well as visual efficiency.

We also recommend wearing contact lenses in conjunction with eye glasses. This allows you to best meet your overall lifestyle needs while protecting the integrity of your overall eye health. During your contact lens evaluation we will discuss the options that are best for you.

Sports & Sun wear

Sport Lenses

If you play sports, you should keep two things in mind related to your vision: protection and precision.

Sports lenses protect the wearer’s eyes. Sports like tennis, baseball, softball, and racquetball may see ball speeds of 90mph or more. Polycarbonate lenses are more resistant to impact than glass or plastic and offer protection for 90% of eye injuries. Protective eyewear, such as sports goggles, fit well, feature a padded bridge, have prescription or non-prescription lenses, and deep-grooved eye wires to prevent the lens from falling out.

The specialized lenses also optimize your vision. Depending on your sport, certain lenses are more appropriate than others. Dark, UV protection lenses are great for baseball and other outdoor sports. Even if you don’t normally wear glasses, non-prescription sports lenses can benefit your performance by offering protection with anti-fog, glare reduction, and scratch resistant properties.

Our office we will help you keep your eye on the ball while keep the ball out of your eye.

Sunwear

To reduce exposure to UV rays and their effects, we recommend you invest in a set of sunglasses which can provide at least 98% protection from UVA and UVB rays. While cheaper sunglasses can range from poor to excellent UV protection, our sunwear lines provide the best protection from the sun. We carry a large selection styles and colors.

If you’re involved in activities like water sports, skiing, golfing, biking, fishing, and even driving, polarized sunglasses may be an extremely helpful option to consider. These specialized lenses reduce glare and give a clearer view by blocking light reflected from surfaces like a flat road or smooth water.

Finally, if you have a youngster in the family, it’s never too early to fit them with sunglasses. Children under the age of 20 are the most susceptible to the damaging effects of UV light. Visual Eyes carries impact resistant frames for kids. We also offer a sunglass package deal to young sunglass wearers, including a cleaning cloth, hard case, and sunglass cords.
